Layout and templates
Choose a layout template and control what appears on each flight screen.
The Display Layout page controls how area results look on the wall. Open a FlightWall in the TheFlightWall app and select Display Layout.
Layout settings apply to area-based tracking. They do not change how individually tracked flights are drawn.
Layout template
Layout template sets the overall arrangement. The options depend on the model.
| Model | Templates |
|---|---|
| FlightWall Mini | Default, No Logo, Technical |
| FlightWall Widescreen | Default, Large Logo, No Logo |
The template also decides which other settings appear, which is the usual reason a setting looks missing on a Mini:
| Setting | FlightWall Mini | FlightWall Widescreen |
|---|---|---|
| Anchor airports | Default template only | Always |
| Display units | Technical or No Logo only | Always |
The app shows a preview when you pick a template. Treat it as a rough guide. The numbers in it are placeholders.
Title text
Title Text picks what fills the title area of a flight screen. Two toggles:
- Airline Name, for example
United Airlines - Flight Number, which shows the callsign, for example
UAL123
Long airline and operator names are cut off rather than scrolled. These toggles choose which field appears. They do not change how long text is drawn.
If flight numbers are missing from the wall, check that Flight Number is on here.
Flight display speed
Flight Display Speed sets how long each flight stays on screen before the display moves to the next one. Choose 2 seconds, 3 seconds, or 5 seconds. The default is 3 seconds.
Pick 5 seconds when a busy area cycles faster than you can read. The 5-second cycle refreshes more slowly, so newly detected aircraft take a little longer to reach the screen.
Too many flights
The display cycles through at most five flights. Too Many Flights decides what happens when more aircraft match your area and filters than it can show.
| Option | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Text screen | Shows a screen saying there are too many flights. This is the default. |
| Indicator LED | Turns the top right LED orange and shows nothing else. |
| Off | Shows nothing. |
Seeing this often means your area or filters are wide. Narrowing the shape, or filtering by aircraft type, airline, or altitude, gives you a set you can read. See Area Tracking.
Anchor airports
Anchor Airports highlights arrivals and departures for airports you choose.
When a flight is going to or from one of them, the display says
Arriving from or Departing to with the other airport's name.
Add up to six airports by name, IATA code, or ICAO code. On a FlightWall Mini this section appears only under the Default template.
Airport search needs a connection to the display. If search does not run, connect from the System page first.
Where the other settings live
Several settings sit on this page but have their own topics:
Select Save in the device header when you are finished. Nothing on this page reaches the display until you do.
